The term Santoku (三徳) literally translates as “three virtues” or “three uses,” referring to the three main ingredients for which it was designed: meat, fish, and vegetables. The name accurately describes the function of this knife, designed to cover multiple processing with one tool.
Born in modern Japan, the Santoku was developed as an all-purpose knife for the home kitchen, capable of handling a wide variety of preparations without the need to change tools.
